The Pelino Company was born in Introdacqua, near Sulmona, during the second half of the XVIII Century, precisely in May 1783 (we have access to this information thanks to a deed delivered by the notary Ventresca in November 1782, which is now conserved in the State Archive of Sulmona). It was then that Berardino Pelino, son of Francesco, born in 1750, gave a productive imprint to an activity that had, up to that moment, operated in the sector of commercial trade. The new enterprise was inherited by Berardino’s son, Panfilo (born in 1794), who continued the flourishing commerce of almonds, which had already expanded far beyond their needs, for the production of “ confetti”, and began the production of liqueurs.

Francesco Paolo (born in 1833), son of Panfilo, is to be remembered – as far as a document of notarial, cadastral, registry and historical nature suggests- for the expansion of his economic activities, undertaken in a very hard period (during the conclusion of the unification process in Italy, that led to the first steps of the unitary State), and because of his expansion of the market outside Regional borders.

With Alfonso, son of Francesco Paolo, born in 1858, the Factory moved into the centre of Sulmona, and then back to the city’s outskirts, in a building constructed in 1890 (see the deeds conserved at the Municipal Archives of Sulmona, and in the Chamber of Commerce of L’Aquila, where the main phases of the Company’s history are also documented from 1783 onwards), which is still in function today.

Mario Pelino (born in 1892) continued along the path of Alfonso, his father, in the traditional production of the Company (which had been joined at the beginning of the 1900s, by that of citrate) increasing its national and international notoriety.
Mario’s sons, Alfonso and Olindo, became owners of the “ confetti”, liqueur and citrate company on 13th July 1973.
